Bhaskar Jyoti Deka is an Associate Professor in the Department of Hydrology and also serves as Joint Faculty at the Centre for Nanotechnology, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, India. His research lies at the intersection of advanced membrane science and environmental engineering, with a strong focus on water and wastewater treatment, desalination, brine management, and resource recovery. Prof. Deka is widely recognized for his contributions to membrane-based separation technologies, particularly in developing innovative polymeric, nanocomposite, and inorganic membranes to address pressing global water challenges.
The Advanced Membrane Research Lab (AMRL) at IIT Roorkee, led by Prof. Deka, is committed to advancing next-generation membrane technologies for sustainable applications in water, energy, and the environment. The lab’s expertise spans membrane fabrication and characterization across a wide range of processes, including microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, forward osmosis, and membrane distillation. Its research also extends to emerging areas such as PFAS removal, contaminant remediation, zero-liquid-discharge systems, air purification, and green hydrogen applications. Supported by state-of-the-art facilities for membrane synthesis, performance evaluation, and advanced characterization, AMRL serves as a dynamic hub for interdisciplinary research, innovation, and industry-oriented translational solutions aimed at enabling a circular and sustainable future.
